topic changes!!!!

Due to a meeting last week with my supervisor i have to change my dissertation topic a week before the research proposal is due. It is challenging and very interesting situation but due to personal and financial problem I was not able to schedule a meeting earlier with him.

The old topic was to analyse Mega-event legacies. The problem is that the primary data is not reliable because of the nature of legacy itself. The data has been altered with many other source of information and sometimes cannot be retrieved. According to Preuss (2007) the methodology of measuring legacy is not viable.
The new topic is to analyse the impact of the UEFA champion leagues final in Rome. This event occurs on the 27 of Mai 2009 and due to constraint it is impossible to attend it. My supervisor has thus advise me to conduct a media discourse analysis. I am not really sure how this method will enable me to obtain in depth knowledge of the event. I suppose that their will be a lot of media coverage around Europe and that it will help me in the research. The problem is that for my research proposal the literature review will not be very important and i am not sure about previous research in the field.

Dissertation critical thinking!!!

I have decided on my dissertation topic for at least 3 month. The subject will be MEGA-EVENTS IMPACT. although after these few month and further information I might consider MEGA-EVENT LEGACY. It seems to be a more interesting subject for me. I may want to focus on the legacy side of the Mega event, because of the long term memory involvement that legacy has.

Suitability of the research:
It is a field that i am deeply interested in and it is in alignement with the career i have chosen. I would like to be able to work in the MEGA-EVENTS industry! Particularly organising The WORLD CUP for the FIFA is my main aim. The area of researche is too wide this is why I may want to chose a specific area of the Legacy or Impact field. On a personal note the FIFA world cup is the most profilic generator of legacy along with the OLYMPICS. These are not going to be the only focus about this researche.

Methodologie:
I will conduct a litterature review (already started) to get more information about the subject. IT is going to be a QUALITATIVE analysis type of research. I will conduct a questionnaire on the subject.

Possible structure of the Dissertation:
Introduction including the structure itself, the analysis of the Mega-Event industry, Major contributors of the industries and little references to previous academic authors.
Litterature review of previous academic writing in the field.
Definition of Mega-Events, Impact or Legacy and what type of implication it has between them.
A nalysis of Mega-Events such as FIFA world cup, Olympics and others (Woodstock, Millenium new years ...)
Analysis of Impact or Legacy (PESTE, Historical, Psychological,...)
A condieration of what type of value my research would bring in the academic field.
Answering such question as why, how, what kind, where, does Mega-Event impact(or Legacy) occurs?
My methodologie will go through a SWOT analysis to point out, what could have been done better.
at last the conclusion.

This article describes what I am planning to do for my dissertation. Of course other infromation and analysis will affect and steer my thinking in maybe other direction.
I am looking forward to be able to get very deply in the subject because of the degree of interest I have for it.

it is getting hot. i am feeling the heat!!!

This post is going to be an assessment of my personal studies. i will talk about everything which is affecting my studies from my personal life to the professional ones. WOW there is so much!! but lets start
First on a personal level, I have broken up with my five year girlfriend which is in any situation a difficult situation to be dealing with. This leads us to financial difficulties because she was the bill payer in the house. Although the everyday bills are not the main concern for the moment. I can easily obtain some limousine work, with a friend who owns his company, over the week end to covers those up.

Secondly, the financial situation worsens up and i have the taxman asking me for the 2008 tax payment and I have the University of Greenwich which would like me to pay the second instalment of the tuition fee by the end of March. It begins in september last year where i could have and should have worked to obtain the money but an physical accident ( broken shoulder) prevented me of doing so. Although a couple of wrong decision was also source of the problem. Anyway, the fact is that i have to meet with the Financial manager to discuss my situation on friday the 6 of march . The result of this discussion will clearly have an impact on whether i can continue or not the course and wether i will be able to continue my dissertation research. I just hope I would be able to play some Jedi Mind trick on her to only get them to grant me a 3 or 4 month extension for the payment. After all we have the dissertation to give back on the 30 of september and we are (MA Event Management Student) graduating until Summer 2010.

Third all the work that we have to do in this semester is absolutely crazy and there is absolutely no way i would be able to work for money.

As I say learned from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow

and this exactly what I am going to do, HOPE for a better tomorrow.
i ll hope i will be able to get the extension, and if not well all my problem are solve i ll go back to my old job and earn some money to pay the bills!!!! LOL
i ll hope the tax man will wait they do not have any choice anyway i ll pay when i can even if i ll have pay more later!!!!
i hope that a bachelor life is all that it is, going out meeting new people and having fun!!! FREEDOM to do whatever u want to do. ;-p

On a last note i must say that i am enjoying every second of this course. When I did an assessment of my ability and personality, they told me that the best job for me would Event Management. OOOOOOOOHHHHH BOYYYYYYY THERE WERE SOOOOO RIGHT!!!!!

confirmation and affirmation

ok ok my english writitng skills is how do you say ... very bad. Afterall I am from a little unique paradise in the indian ocean and for those who think this is a proffessional picture!! Well no I took this picture myself at Anse Lazioin the Seychelles. "Beautyfull no". Anyway this is the feedback that i had from 2 out 3 formative assignement. I know that english is not my first languages but i realy need to improve that skill. Even by using very thouroughly the spell and grammar check. I still manage to leave some mistakes. I think I will have to get grammar classes or support by the uny. let's hope for more news about what i need to improve because as for now i do not know any others.

Dear journal/Diary
Unfortunatly for some culture, I have a very confident personality. I believe notting is impossible. It is just a question of times and efforts and opportunities to succeed in what we are doing.

All the learning and critical analysis will be a doable task. Based on the reflection model given in class, their is three steps to follow to achieves a post graduates reflection process. Based on habermas (1972) these steps are description , analysis and reconstruction. The first two steps are purely academic based on your learning and observation therein. The third steps is the reflection expected from us as MA student.

One problem about this process is to know when are we able to say that we read all the various point of view on the subject. How and when is it we can be certain nobody has ever reflected in the same way as we are doing at that time.

Another problem is the Communication process which can be altered by anything and thus missing out on potential crucial learning outcomes and skills.

"the only thing that I know is that I know nothing" (Socrates) is the way I like to approach my learning and studies. I can say that this type of attitudes has his strengh and weaknesses within. the strengh is that you are confident enought to undertake all the required work and learn all the skills you need. But the at the same time, am I too confident to go through the process without noticing criticals skills and learnings outcomes.

No Fear is my logo but my aspirations are big and I sure think that going throught this MA Events course will help me succeed on the path of my aspirations.
